To create beautiful, stylish, bespoke furniture using handpicked, local, British materials. – That was the ideology when Rough Living was launched, and we still stand by it. Founded in 2012 by Hertfordshire born designer and stylist Daniel Spendlove, he made the decision to bring a halt to his city career and instead go back to his passion of deigning and making beautiful furniture and interiors.
With a sharp change of scene and a little inspiration, Rough Living swiftly transformed from a one-man-band in a lowly garage making coffee tables and other household items, into a studio based team of skilled craftsmen helping to transform entire residential interiors, Bars and Restaurants.
It wasn’t until 2 years later and a stroke of luck that Dan bumped into an old friend from his time at secondary school, Sam Nicolaou. Whilst living only five minutes apart, It had been over eight years since they last saw each other. So after a few drinks and a lot of memory sharing, they discovered they still had a lot in common. Sam had been working as a professionally trained joiner since their days in design class, working in high-end luxury homes for high profile clients and Architects. With a mix of metalwork, general furniture making and now bespoke joinery, the possibilitles became extremely exciting.
Rough Living Furniture was formed.
With a new workshop in the Hertfordshire countryside, and a developed team of young and exciting designer/makers, we are ever evolving. But whilst the design ethos remains the same, Rough Living Furniture has developed to hold a unique stance, mastering the art of manufacturing with multiple materials, in-house. Whether it be a small Oak coffee table, a bespoke four metre pool bar, or six hundred sturdy steel office desks, we can cater for it.
